Ragusa Ibla

Ragusa Ibla

The site of present-day Ragusa Ibla boasts at least 3,000 years of history and is the typical environment for settlements during the Sicel period.

The Sicels, among the first inhabitants of our highlands, perched themselves on the rocky spurs fortified and inaccessible towns of Castelluccio, Pantalica, Modica, and Ibla.
Ragusa Ibla is the result of a long stratification of cultures, peoples, and dominations.

Hellenic, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Spanish, and French populations passed through here, leaving their mark.
Architecturally, today's Ibla also has its own unique beauty, characterized by an intriguing blend of late Baroque architecture and a medieval urban fabric.

Culture and Traditions of Ibla

A UNESCO heritage site rich in art, history, and Sicilian identity

The effect is realized when, turning from narrow, winding streets, we suddenly see before our astonished gaze the façade of a church or an explosion of richly carved corbels in typical Baroque motifs.
All around, the province is rich in historical sites, archaeological sites, and equally interesting urban areas, including Modica, Scicli, Ispica (with its stunning Ispica quarry), Chiaramonte, Donnafugata Castle, and Kamarina.
Ibla is also a good base for visiting the Pantalica necropolis (the largest and most important in Europe), Noto (the stone garden), Syracuse (the Greek theater, Ortygia, etc.), Caltagirone (with its ceramics and monumental staircase), Agrigento (the Valley of the Temples), and many other lesser-known places that hold surprises of indescribable interest and beauty.
The Iblean territory also offers a rich array of food and wine products of absolute value, recently recognized nationally and internationally as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's a case of saying, "A word to the wise is enough."

Sicilian Baroque

Ibla is one of the finest examples of Sicilian Baroque, with monumental churches, noble palaces, and architectural details unique in the world.

Art & Traditions

The artisan workshops, popular festivals and culinary traditions tell of a living culture, authentic and deeply rooted in the territory.

Cinema Scenarios
